Two popular commuter routes across the Charleston peninsula will be converted to two-way streets, mirroring a national trend aimed at slowing traffic and making more vibrant, walkable communities.

But while downtown neighborhood residents are cheering the plan to convert Cannon and Spring streets from one-way to two-way because they think it could help bring their communities to life, many commuters think it could bring traffic to a grinding halt during rush hours.
